For the love of all things that bloom and grow
Flowers to me are the celebrations of life. Color has always been my favorite element in art and what better way to explore color than through flowers. Especially when you find them in the desert, they are even more precious against a harsh backdrop of the grey tones of the rock and sand. I love the strong shadows contrasted with the sharp lights that come from a bright sun. This contrast along with the rich colors is what keeps me coming back to the easel. The Southwestern deserts can be some of the most colorful places on earth; between the sky and all the wildflowers and cactus blooms there is always much life to be found. You just have to look for it.
A flower to me represents life, there is so much beauty with a sense of time, because it is so fleeting. We have to stop, to smell the flowers and live in the moment because all that we really have is the present. That is what I hope to achieve in my artwork. To share the beauty of nature. To be in the moment.
